Cross-border parcels stopped being the cheap option
The United States suspended its duty-free exemption for low-value imports in August 2025, and made that suspension indefinite in June 2026. There is no longer an $800 threshold that lets a parcel enter the US free of duty. Every shipment is now a customs entry with duty, fees and paperwork attached.
For a Canadian brand shipping direct-to-consumer, that changes the maths on every order. The alternative is to move inventory across the border once, in bulk, and ship domestically from the US side.
Shipping each order across the border
- Every parcel is a separate customs entry
- Duty, brokerage and fees land on each order
- Clearance is a step on every shipment
- Delivery times vary with border processing
Holding US stock in Buffalo
- One bulk import, cleared once
- Entry costs spread across the whole shipment
- Orders ship as domestic US parcels
- Standard domestic ground transit and returns
A note on cross-border duty rules
The US de minimis exemption under 19 U.S.C. 1321(a)(2)(C) has been suspended for all modes of transport since 29 August 2025. Two US Customs and Border Protection interim final rules dated 24 June 2026 made that suspension indefinite. Entry Type 86 and release from manifest are suspended.
Goods that genuinely originate under CUSMA and carry valid certification of origin may still enter free of duty, but origin is a rules-of-origin test rather than a shipping address, and it does not exempt goods from every tariff measure currently in force.
We do not quote duty rates or landed cost for your products. Rates depend on your HTS classification and country of origin, and several tariff measures are currently subject to litigation and scheduled change.
Reviewed 31 July 2026. Tariff and customs rules are changing frequently. Confirm your own HTS classification and duty exposure with a licensed customs broker before making inventory decisions.
A Buffalo facility 90 minutes from our Canadian warehouse
Our two facilities sit either side of the same border crossing, so moving stock between them is a short domestic-length run rather than a logistics project. Most brands keep a working buffer on each side.
- Warehouse at 375 N French Rd, Buffalo, New York
- Canadian facility in Etobicoke, Ontario for domestic Canadian orders
- US office in Pendleton, Indiana
- Inventory visible across both sites in one dashboard
- Replenish the US buffer from Canadian stock as it draws down

US fulfillment for Canadian brands: common questions
Is there still an $800 duty-free allowance into the US?
No. The US suspended its de minimis exemption for all modes of transport on 29 August 2025, and US Customs and Border Protection made that suspension indefinite through interim final rules dated 24 June 2026. Low-value shipments now require a formal or informal customs entry. Confirm your own exposure with a licensed customs broker, as these rules are still changing.
Why hold inventory in the US rather than shipping from Canada?
Because duty and entry costs now attach to every individual parcel crossing the border. Importing in bulk once spreads those costs across the whole shipment, and orders then move as domestic US parcels with standard ground transit and normal return paths.
Where is your US warehouse?
Our US fulfillment warehouse is at 375 N French Rd, Buffalo, New York, with a US office in Pendleton, Indiana. Buffalo sits roughly 90 minutes from our Canadian facility in Etobicoke, Ontario.
Do you act as importer of record?
Importer of record is decided case by case and depends on your corporate structure and customs registrations. We will walk through the options with you during onboarding rather than assume a default, because it determines who carries post-entry liability.
Can you handle Amazon FBA prep for US fulfillment centres?
Yes. We prep inbound shipments at the Buffalo facility with labeling, bundling, polybagging and compliance checks, then ship into the assigned US Amazon fulfillment centre.
How quickly can we start shipping from the US?
Most brands are integrated and shipping within 14 days once inventory is on the way. The gating item is usually the bulk import itself rather than the warehouse setup.
